You know the AI hype is real when big companies like Apple and Google seek to join forces to drive advancements in artificial intelligence. However, Android smartphone makers have been at the forefront when it comes to adding artificial intelligence to their phones. Now, OnePlus and OPPO have announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini Ultra-powered AI features into their devices. OnePlus also recently added an AI-based photo eraser tool to its phones.
Gemini Ultra is Google’s most powerful artificial intelligence model to date. Gemini comes in three sizes: Gemini Nano, the smallest version of the AI model that runs natively on phones like the Pixel 8 Pro; Gemini Pro, used by Samsung on the Galaxy S24 series; and Gemini Ultra, Google’s most powerful artificial intelligence model yet Smart model. While specific details of the partnership are unclear, OnePlus and OPPO said the first AI features powered by Gemini Ultra will debut “later this year.”
The joint statement from OnePlus and OPPO did not provide specific information on when these features will be available or which phones will support them. However, the Gemini Ultra is likely to be exclusive to flagship and high-end devices released by OnePlus and OPPO, such as the OnePlus 12, 12R, OPPO Find X7 Ultra, and possibly even the upcoming OnePlus Open 2.
OnePlus revealed that it is also working with Google to bring cloud AI-based features to its devices. This means that upcoming OnePlus phones will be able to use artificial intelligence to perform tasks such as summarizing news articles, summarizing audio, similar to other flagship phones today. More details about the collaboration will be announced later this year.
