Here are some fun things to wrap up your week: Instagram is rolling out some new features that are gearing up to bring DMs and more to all users.
As detailed in the press release, the platform notes that users can expect three features designed to inject more personality into Stories, Reels, and Notes. The first feature is “Cut”, which allows users to turn photos into their own unique stickers.
Instagram says users are using these custom stickers in Reels and Stories, and any stickers created from videos will be animated.
Additionally, the social media platform allows users to grab “eligible photos you see on Instagram” and turn them into usable stickers.
Notes for Instagram is getting its next update, which will bring “tips” to the fancy “set your mood” feature in DMs. The company said it has begun exploring a way for users to “add prompts” to notes, which would encourage more interaction between users, friends and followers. Those who see the prompt attached to your comment will be able to reply to it.
A prompt will appear in the user’s DM page and display the number of responses received so far. When clicked, a short menu appears at the bottom of the user interface showing each user’s response to the prompt. Your profile icon will be placed in the upper left corner of this little menu, and clicking on it will take you to the standard Notes UI so you can write down your mood.
Similar to how Notes currently works, it appears users will be able to fine-tune the sharing settings for Notes. Users may find the option to share their Note Alerts with followers they follow or only with close friends.
That’s not all there is to Notes. As Instagram teases, it’s working on a way to add short bios to profiles. The feature is “coming soon” and will allow users to display their notes on their profile 24 hours a day. A person’s profile appears like a thought bubble above their profile photo.
Cutouts is now available to all users globally, Instagram said. However, those interested in the new Notes feature will have to wait, as it’s still “coming soon.”
