- Not all Galaxy AI features will be available on older devices, and some of them may be limited to similar levels as the Galaxy S23 FE.
Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update has already gained some popularity among tech enthusiasts and Galaxy users, thanks to the treasure trove of Galaxy AI features it brings. While Samsung’s 2023 and 2024 flagships have received updates, the Galaxy S22 series feels left behind. Well, not for long.
Talent jar A Samsung forum post from South Korea was spotted on It is, as previously rumored, the Galaxy S22 series.
While we have to acknowledge potential translation inaccuracies, it appears that not all Galaxy AI features will be available on older devices. Sources from Samsung claim that starting in 2022, phones will get “S23 FE-level artificial intelligence.” Given that the Galaxy S23 FE lacks instant slow-motion functionality, it’s a safe bet that older flagships will also lack this feature.
Devices expected to receive “S23 FE-level” AI capabilities include:
- Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
- Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8 Plus and Tab S8 Ultra
It’s worth noting that fan edition models such as the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy Tab S8 FE may not receive these AI features.
In the meantime, owners of Samsung’s 2021 flagship phones and foldable phones have reason to celebrate. With the One UI 6.1 update, their Galaxy S21 series devices as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 will get “Circle to Search” and “Magic Rewrite” features (the latter is likely to be a pair of build editing tools).
According to the post, Samsung plans to roll out One UI 6.1 with these AI experiences to eligible 2022 and 2021 devices in early May. The update comes as a welcome surprise to many Galaxy owners and further emphasizes Samsung’s commitment to long-term software updates.
