WINETA, Okla. — The Vinita Police Department received a $20,050 grant from the Cherokee Nation that will be used to equip eight patrol cars with upgraded internet connections.
Vinita police say there are issues with the hardware they are currently using because patrol cars often lose internet connectivity.
The department said the new hardware is hardwired in the car and emits via an antenna on the top of the car.
This allows them to not have to worry about losing connectivity while these troops are out on patrol.
The department shared the following in a Facebook post after receiving the grant.
“We would like to thank the Cherokee Nation for the grant they received today. This grant is being used to upgrade the internet capabilities of our patrol units. With all of the equipment our patrol units use, it is important to maintain the highest level of connectivity available on our patrol units. within the jurisdiction.”
