LAS VEGAS – UFC CEO Dana White dismissed rumors that Conor McGregor would announce a comeback during UFC 300.
McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has recently been the main source of rumors regarding his return date, but according to promotion bosses, that has yet to be determined. “The Notorious” said he will return to face Michael Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at International Fight Week in Las Vegas (UFC 303 in June).
McGregor’s latest teaser was a photo posted on Instagram of him facing off against someone in a yellow Teletubbies costume, with the caption: “The fight is on! McGregor vs. Chandler! On the date I’m talking about See.”
Reporters at the Power Slap 7 post-fight press conference asked Whitey if McGregor could headline International Boxing Week.
“I saw the article,” White said. “I don’t know what Teletubbies means, but it could be. Hopefully. That’s what we want to do.”
The June event has yet to announce a main event, and it appears White and the promotion will be filling out the marquee with McGregor and Chandler.
White was later asked if fans could expect any surprises during the UFC 300 broadcast, which he viewed as another hint at McGregor’s fight announcement.
“No, I don’t think there was any surprise,” White said. “I know what you’re saying, this is all internet bullshit. I can honestly sit here and tell you right now, we don’t have an agreement on a Conor fight. So, I know there’s been a lot of rumors and people want this to die Places would go dark, and there would be some big announcements that they wish they could get out of — it’s all internet bullshit, like NBC News.”
White has given no indication that he needs to put pen to paper in the final hours before UFC 300 to make a last-minute announcement on the card. In the past, however, fights can and have occurred quickly. But as it stands, the UFC boss is encouraging fans to ignore “internet bullshit.”
