what you need to know
- On Friday, April 12, Samsung announced a new “Samsung Smart Wearable” on the Bluetooth SIG database.
- The model number SM-L305U matches the leaked model number of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7.
- According to the listing, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 will support Bluetooth 5.3, just like the current Galaxy Watch 6.
We’re probably just a few months away from Samsung launching the Galaxy Watch 7 series, which could coincide with a new Wear OS upgrade. Leaks are starting to ramp up in the lead-up to launch, but a new listing in the Bluetooth SIG database appears to be a rare confirmation of the Galaxy Watch 7’s model number and specs.
The official statement matches the model number reported in previously leaked Galaxy Watch 7, providing more evidence that the listing is indeed referring to the upcoming smartwatch.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) certifies products licensed to use the Bluetooth specification, and devices that complete the Bluetooth qualification process will appear in the Bluetooth SIG’s database. This occasionally gives us a sneak peek at products before they’re released, like Walmart’s upcoming Google TV device a few days ago. A listing in the Bluetooth SIG database dated Friday, April 12, refers to a “Samsung Smart Wearable Device (Smart Watch)” but does not specify further (via SamMobile).
However, the listing does indicate that the smartwatch has model number SM-L305U, which is familiar. Late last month, a previous Galaxy Watch 7 leak revealed questionable models of up to three potential smartwatches in the upcoming lineup. SM-L300 and SM-L305 are related to one model, SM-L310 and SM-L315 represent another model, and premium models use SM-L700 and SM-L705. A new entry in the Bluetooth SIG database confirms the report’s accuracy.
In addition to the model number, the Bluetooth SIG list also tells us that the Galaxy Watch 7 will support Bluetooth 5.3. The same goes for last year’s lineup, so there are no changes in terms of Bluetooth connectivity this year.
Still, many rumored features related to the Galaxy Watch 7 series are still up in the air. According to reports, there will be three models launched this year instead of two, and Samsung is rumored to be exploring rectangular designs. However, it is unclear whether the Galaxy Watch 7 will adopt a new design. What’s more likely is that the new lineup will increase device storage to 32GB.
Samsung usually holds a Galaxy Unpacked event every summer, so we expect to see the Galaxy Watch 7 officially announced then.
