If you tried playing Monster Hunter Now today, you might have noticed a pretty big problem for a game that revolves around you entering a world and slaying giant beasts: there are no monsters on the map .
I figured this out myself at 6am this morning in London, while other players on the Monster Hunter Now subreddit were also unhappy with a bug that prevented monsters from spawning on the overworld map.
If you’re reading this article, you’re probably looking for a solution, right? Well, here’s the bad news for you: restarting the device and/or reinstalling the app doesn’t fix the problem – it has more to do with something on the developer’s side, Niantic, and is caused by a bug in a recent update of.
“Hunters, we are aware of an issue in some countries and regions where monsters are not appearing after updating to the V74 app,” the developer wrote in a blog post on the Japanese community board. “We are currently investigating this issue and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please wait while the issue is resolved.”
There’s no date or time set for a fix yet, so all we can do now is sit back and wait.

The game hasn’t become completely unplayable due to this bug – nodes (where you collect resources etc.) still work fine, and you’ll notice that your followers will still happily go out and fight the paintball monsters that would normally appear in one location. The problem seems to be how players interact with monsters that should be visible on the map.
I also noticed that huntathons (read: raids) are still available, although the usual countdowns and cooldowns apply to these, so if you’re craving a big walk and big hunt, you might be out of luck today.
I’ll be keeping an eye on updates from the official Niantic account and will update this article as more information is revealed.
