when make a alien Movie Three things are necessary. First up, the facehuggers. Without them, you can’t have the other two. Second, chest explosion. This is just a smaller version of the third but still absolutely crucial. Then, the third one, a complete alien. Those acid-blooded killers who like Murder the entire crew of a spaceship.
Alien: Romulus“The Movie,” directed by Fede Alvarez, is all of this and more. The first trailer was released earlier this year It started to hint at this, but two extended scenes shown at CinemaCon 2024 revealed just how intense and violent things are going to get with all these must-have elements this August.
The first scene begins with several characters entering the Wayland Utani ship. Do they work in the company? Are they just investigating? It looks more like the latter, but it’s not clear yet. Apparently some of their crew was trapped behind a door that couldn’t be opened, so now a few others are trying to figure out how to open it. Cailee Spaeny’s character is outside the room, removing a piece of technology from an old synthbot and passing it into a locked room to be placed on their own synthbot in hopes of solving the problem. At the same time, someone pulled the switch and several pods began to move.
In order for the team’s compositors to integrate the new pieces, he needed to reboot, so everyone started waiting. A woman has discovered a really cool “X-ray flashlight” that lets you see your own body just by waving a wand over it. Meanwhile, more and more pods begin to move… and grow… and eventually hatch.
There is about a foot or two of water in the locked room, and we get a POV shot of something swimming in the water and brushing past one of the people. This frightened them. Then the other person will touch someone else. Finally, a full facehugger will jump out of the water and try to implant himself. One person can fight a battle. Another does the same, but not without a close-up of the creature trying to insert itself into its mouth. It’s very bad, but very great.
As the Facehuggers continue to hatch, the people locked in the room continue to fight against the ever-increasing number of Facehuggers. Then, just as one of them is about to jump into the face of an unconscious human, the synth wakes up and stops it by grabbing its tail as it jumps toward the human body.
The door was open and everyone could escape, but now there were probably two dozen facehuggers chasing after them. They break through one door, then another, and just as the humans prepare to escape, we see a facehugger wrap itself around a woman’s face. Cut to black.
Sometime after that scene, we see the woman wearing the face hugger feeling uncomfortable. She walks into a room with Isabella Merced’s character and asks if she’s okay. Holding her stomach, the woman picks up the X-ray torch from the previous scene and scans her chest. It revealed something huge, moving inside her and tapping her ribs to get her out. Uh oh.
Merced grabbed her friend, who was now scared, in pain and convulsing. As she rocked, she mistakenly pressed a button that released the part of the ship they were on from the rest of the structure. Now they’re floating in space and this thing hits her in the chest and everyone freaks out.
That’s when the big moments happen. The creature inside her finally made progress and split open the woman’s chest. But compared with before alien Movie, this seems a bit cruel. The closest comparison I can make is this: imagine you have a sledgehammer and are trying to smash a hole in the wall. When you smash it, the wall will start to break into pieces, getting bigger and bigger as you keep hitting it. This is what a chest burst looks like.
Finally, the alien pops out and starts screaming and chopping off its squeaky little head. Meanwhile, the hold afloat in which two women (one of whom had just died) reached its massive fuel reserves, then boom! There is a big explosion. What follows is a montage of shots from later in the film, including several full-on Aliens.
We still don’t know exactly what it is Alien: Romulus But it’s clear from its CinemaCon footage that Alvarez wanted this one to be more brutal and impactful alien Movies want. We’ll see more on August 16th.
