Sturdy and cool
A first look at the Gigabyte Z790 UD AC reveals a very solid build, with metal-reinforced PCIe slots that can accommodate today’s sizable GPUs. The VRM and MOSFET are equally protected, with a sizable chunk of metal acting as their heat sink. The top NVMe slot also comes with a heatsink, but the second slot and the M.2 slot for the WiFi card are separate. The power supply design is 16+1+1 mixed phase, and the VRM adopts 8+8 phase parallel design.
FPS Review tested it using an i7-14700K and found no issues when checking its benchmark suite. There’s quite a lot of features for a $180 motherboard, making the Gigabyte Z790 UD AC an attractive choice for the heart of a mid-range system. If you choose to use a Core i9, the power supply design should also satisfy you.
