what you need to know
- Instagram has teamed up with K-Pop girl group LE SSERAFIM to launch a new sticker called “Frames.”
- Photo Frame lets users convert photos saved in their camera roll into Polaroid photos that need to be “developed” when shared.
- Those who see the photos you share must “shake to reveal” what’s behind the fog.
Today (April 15), Instagram is partnering with the popular K-pop band to launch a feature next to Coachella.
According to Instagram, the platform is launching “Frames” for Stories as part of a partnership with K-pop girl group LE SSERFIM. The feature is said to allow users to turn photos into Polaroids with just one tap. Photos saved to your camera roll can use this new Story sticker.
Instagram adds that those who want to view your photos will have to “shake their phone to see what’s inside.”
First, users can initiate story creation on Instagram and tap on the Sticker icon. Tapping on the “Frame” sticker option will open your phone’s gallery to select the image you want to use. Instagram’s policy is that you can only take one photo at a time using a Polaroid frame.
After deciding, the user can add a title. The company says this will automatically print the date and time stamp of when the photo was originally taken.
When using Polaroid Frame, others will see a “Shake to Reveal” option at the bottom of your story. This will “develop” the image (how Polaroid works in real life) to reveal the photo the user wants to share.
Instagram is launching “Frames” today (April 15), so users can start using it through the second part of Coachella. The musical event will be held again April 19-21 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
This is Instagram’s second recent update, with the platform launching “Cutouts” last week and bringing more content to Notes. The former is touted as a feature that lets users turn themselves into unique, usable stickers in Instagram Stories. Cutouts are also available for reels. However, users can grab their videos and turn them into animated stickers.
Notes are getting some upgrades, like Tips and more visibility in your Instagram profile. Prompts are an interactive variant of Notes that allow others to interact and respond with emojis, quick bios, and more.
