long story short
- A leaker claims OnePlus may offer a foldable flip phone with a telephoto camera.
- This could be a rebranded version of the upcoming OPPO Find N Flip phone.
OnePlus has launched its first foldable device, the OnePlus Open, but it’s a foldable device. Now, a Chinese leaker is suggesting that a OnePlus flip phone may be on the way.
Smart Pikachu claimed on Weibo (via machine translation) that OPPO’s next flip phone will feature a telephoto camera and macro capabilities. However, they also suggested that OnePlus could also launch a foldable flip phone with a telephoto camera and macro support.
Something might get lost in translation, but a OnePlus clamshell foldable phone makes sense. After all, the OnePlus Open is actually a rebranded OPPO Find N3. Therefore, it would not be surprising if the OPPO Find N5 Flip was launched under the OnePlus moniker. We’ve also seen several aggressively priced clamshell phones in recent months, so the affordable OnePlus Flip seems like a smart move to grab share of the foldable market.
Additionally, a flip phone with a telephoto camera would be a rarity as few flip-fold phones offer this feature these days. In fact, the OPPO Find N3 Flip is the only commercially available device that fits this bill.
Smart Pikachu also said that OPPO and vivo have not given up on clamshell folding screens. However, they do claim that their product development is “half a year” behind the competition. You probably shouldn’t hold your breath for a OnePlus Flip phone anytime soon, though, especially since several previous leaks suggested that the OPPO Find N5 Flip has been cancelled.
