With superhero movies no longer as popular as they once were, the next two big issues for Hollywood to tackle are video games and anime adaptations. The Last of Us and Fallout have both been successful in gaming, and One Piece is a hit on Netflix. Anime is obviously very popular these days, and while One Punch Man isn’t in the spotlight like it once was (even though season 3 is finally coming), it’s still getting a live-action adaptation by Justin Lin and is eyeing Spider-Man 4 “The director is this director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin’s One Punch Man movie is being rewritten – by Dan Harmon, co-creator of “Rick and Morty” and writer of animated series Heather Anne knife. Campbell is no slouch either.

Choosing Lin to direct a live-action One Punch Man movie would make sense given his experience with blockbusters like Star Trek Beyond and multiple Fast and Furious films, although I have to assume that Harmon and Campbell’s Participation was primarily due to their history of working on comedy animated series. This is actually a Harmon and Lin reunion, though, as the filmmaker did direct a few episodes of Community and Harmon also created the show.

The show was originally expected to begin production in late 2022, and Lin was said to be working on rewrites with other writers at the time, but apparently that didn’t pan out for whatever reason. Additionally, longtime Sony producer Avi Arad will produce the film alongside his son Ali Arad. Details of the movie’s plot and how closely it follows the original manga/anime are currently unknown, and there’s no word on a release date, so in the meantime you’ll have to wait until season three airs.
