WhatsApp is launching an AI chatbot because of course it is

Artificial intelligence chatbots are slowly but surely making their way into every app we use, and the latest one is WhatsApp. Meta is now testing adding the Meta AI chatbot to the messaging service, with testing currently underway on the latest versions of the app for iOS and Android. Currently, the test is only available to users who have set their WhatsApp language to English.

However, this is a limited test, which means not everyone who is eligible will be able to see the Meta AI chatbot in WhatsApp. So far, it is available in some countries, including India, but only for a limited number of people. Of course, this may change in the future.

For some, Meta AI is integrated into the search bar, while for others, there’s a new Meta AI icon in the upper right corner, next to the camera button and new conversation button.

Meta AI works like any other chatbot, allowing you to ask it questions. If you click on the Meta AI-powered search bar, you’ll get some randomly generated suggestions of what you can ask, but of course you can use any prompt you want.

It would be interesting to see if WhatsApp can go a step further and integrate chatbots into your chats (just like Skype), which would be interesting considering how these are end-to-end encrypted. Currently, it doesn’t go that far and is limited to the implementation of the search bar.
