Google may be hoping to reshape how its foldable smartphone efforts are viewed. The successor to last year’s Pixel Fold was supposed to be the Pixel Fold 2, but a new report today claims it has been rebranded and will actually be sold as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Additionally, as we’ve heard before, the device will likely debut at Google’s annual hardware event this October, rather than the Google I/O conference in May like its predecessor.

Therefore, Google may launch four smartphones in October instead of its usual two smartphones. Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are loosely the successors to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, with the Pixel 9 Pro said to be smaller and similar to the Pixel 9 but with the upgraded specs we’ve become accustomed to. All of these should use the upcoming Tensor G4 SoC.
The switch from Pixel Fold 2 to Pixel 9 Pro Fold appears to have happened recently in internal Google communications. Of course, things could change again before launch, so keep that in mind.
