what you need to know
- WhatsApp has introduced chat filters that allow users to quickly view unread messages or group chats without having to scroll through massive conversations.
- These filters will appear at the top of the chat list, with options like “All,” “Unread,” and “Groups.”
- These filters will be gradually rolled out to users and are expected to be available in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp has launched new chat filters designed to help you quickly view unread messages or all groups so you don’t have to scroll through tons of chats to find them.
A new filter will pop up at the top of the chat list with the following options all, unreadand group. When you open the Messages app, you’ll start with the “All” filter, which lets you view all messages. Switch to Unread to see only messages you haven’t checked out or marked as unread.
These filters are easier to use than the hidden search bar filters for unread messages. If you didn’t know, WhatsApp lets you view unread messages through filters in the search bar. But these new filters make it easier to find that option when you need it.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp reports that “group” filters have been a hot demand. This feature brings all your group chats into one place, so you can easily filter group messages. Additionally, it will show you community subgroups.
Previously, low-activity groups could easily get lost in the sea of chat. But now, with group filters, you’ll be better able to find them in the crowd.
“We believe filters will make it easier for people to stay organized, find the conversations that matter most, and help browse messages more efficiently,” WhatsApp said in a blog post. “We’ll continue to offer more options to help you focus on the most important thing.”
Filters will appear in your chats starting today, and everyone will receive them over the next few weeks.
WhatsApp is constantly introducing new features. In addition to filters in chat lists, the service last month added another search feature for Android users: search by date. Now you can finally easily pinpoint a message based on when it was sent without having to scroll endlessly to find it.
Here’s a fun fact: this feature is up and running on iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web.
