Attention trainers: The Pokemon World Championship has been set for this summer

If you like to see the best Pokemon Trainers from around the world will be competing and you’ll be pleased to hear that the dates for the World Championships have been confirmed.

Last year, The Pokémon Company revealed that the 2024 Pokémon World Championships would be held in Honolulu, Hawaii for the first time. After the Pokémon European International Championships took place over the weekend, the official Play Pokemon Twitter account confirmed that the Pokémon World Championships will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center from August 16th to 18th. Of course, you have to have played in various other tournaments up to this point to get to Worlds, but you can participate in tournaments as a guest regardless.

The announcement of Pokémon World in Honolulu comes at a difficult time as Hawaii is being severely affected by wildfires across the state last year. In response, The Pokemon Company donated $200,000 to support relief efforts at the time. Notably, many Native Hawaiians are critical of the amount of tourism the state receives, calling on tourists to be at least more respectful of local residents and local wildlife than they currently are, and some even say tourists should stop visiting all together. If you’re considering heading to Hawaii for Pokemon World, keep this in mind when weighing whether you should go.

Back in February, Game Freak announced the latest Pokemon game they were developing, a new entry in the recent legendary series Pokemon Legends ZA. The game is actually set in Kalos, the region in Pokémon X and Y, and it looks like it will be set in a slightly futuristic setting rather than the setting of Legendary Arceus Set in the past. There’s no release date yet, though, so we’ll have to wait until The Pokemon Company decides to host another Pokemon Giveaway.
