Last November, Google announced a new search experiment called Notes. This feature enables users to write short comments on articles that they can share with others. These notes can also be decorated with stickers, text and background photos. Now, it appears that users will have the option to create and use AI-generated images as their Notes backgrounds.
The first thing discovered was Android system, Google appears to have quietly rolled out the ability to create background images for Notes using the company’s generative artificial intelligence. When the feature was first announced, the tech giant said it would first roll out in the United States. But the US and Indian rollouts appear to be happening simultaneously.
If you choose to participate in this experiment, you will see the option to create an AI image when you click the Add button after clicking the Add annotation button on the web page. When you enter “Create AI Image”, you will enter a page with a prompt box and a “Create” button. Once you submit your tip (limited to 1,000 words), artificial intelligence will generate four images for you to choose from.
According to the report, the quality of the images is not satisfactory as they look pixelated. Once you select one image, you’re stuck because you won’t be able to go back to selecting four images. To get new images, you have to write a new prompt, which may not provide the same results as before.
Notes is available on Android and iOS in the United States and India. It supports US English as well as Indian Hindi and English. It’s unclear if and when Google plans to expand this experiment to other countries.
