The just-launched nubia Flip 5G is a serious contender for the world’s most affordable clamshell foldable phone (although Tecno’s Phantom V Flip may have a say in that regard).
Nubia’s Flip starts at $499 for the 8/256GB model and goes up to $699 for the 12/512GB model. The retail packaging is also solid, with a two-piece case with the Nubia logo, a 33W charger, and a USB cable. Far more expensive foldable devices have far fewer features out of the box.

What’s interesting about the nubia Flip, besides its competitive price, is that it’s one of the largest products of its kind. When unfolded, it has a 6.9-inch display and the battery is one of the largest in its class at 4,310mAh.
On the downside, the nubia Flip is probably the heaviest foldable flip phone at 214 grams.
The nubia Flip has a 1.43-inch 466x466px OLED screen protector and is basically a bolt-on smartwatch. The UI here is also straight out of a smartwatch, but its role is as a selfie viewfinder or to view and reply to the occasional text.

We’ll end this quick unboxing with a word about build quality. The nubia Flip exudes quality. The metal frame has a matte texture that’s reminiscent of the titanium Galaxy S24 Ultra. Exterior glass panels are also matte, rounding out the matte exterior.
Finally, the power button gets a sexy red accent—something our MWC 2024 hands-on device didn’t have.
