Drake confuses ‘push-up’ AI debate with deepfake

A new track “leaked” over the weekend, and fans have been debating whether the song actually comes from Drake or is the return of AI Drake. The song is a diss track called “Push Ups” that targets the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Metro Boomin. At one point, it tells Metro Boomin to “Shut your ass up and hit some drums.” It sounds like Drake, but listen closely and there are obvious glitches in his voice.

After “Push Ups” went viral, Drake didn’t officially take credit for the song, but mentioned it multiple times on his Instagram Stories, including AI deepfake video released of rap producer Metro Boomin replacing Nick Cannon in 2002 movie clip drum line.

This doesn’t really confirm that he wrote the song. If anything, his use of deepfake videos almost makes him feel like a troll. Maybe he wrote the song, maybe he even used an AI voice clone of himself to complete it. Or maybe he had nothing to do with it and was just participating in the hype for fun. One thing that seems clear is that even if last year’s voice cloning bothered him, he’s happy to use artificial intelligence to make memes.
