CableMod 12VHPWER 90° and 180° cables, V1.0 and V1.1 both cause burns
That nice angled 12VHPWER cable you bought for your new RTX card should be uninstalled as soon as possible. CableMod is recalling all V1.0 and V1.1 angled cables because the adapter may become loose during cable management or system use. Once they are loose, it is easy to overheat, causing the adapter to melt into the GPU and potentially causing a fire.
This recall only applies to 90° and 180° cables, the rest are safe to use. You can request a full refund or store credit and free shipping to buy a replacement cable so you don’t burn out your rather precious RTX GPU. While less than 1% of cables have failed so far, there have been 272 reports of loose adapters in the United States, causing at least $74,500 in damage. Aren’t the new power cord standards great?
