Lenovo shows off transparent display laptop at MWC 2024

MWC 2024 is in full swing, with numerous technology brands showcasing their latest innovations on the show floor. Earlier today, Honor showed off the Magic 6 Pro, and now Lenovo has taken the wraps off its first laptop with a transparent display. Lenovo ThinkBook transparent display laptop, as the name suggests, uses a fully transparent screen through which users can see content.

One of the highlights of this laptop is its 17.3-inch Micro-LED display, which is transparent and bezel-less, and even the keyboard area is transparent. Lenovo said it is using artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC) to enable the interaction of digital elements with physical objects for an immersive experience. Additionally, users can switch between keyboard and drawing tablet, allowing for more creative use cases.

Lenovo says micro LED technology makes transparent displays possible thanks to its high color saturation and 1,000 nit brightness. This makes the screen clearly visible even in outdoor environments. However, the company says more improvements are possible as image quality and durability are further optimized, such as providing more privacy or the ability to interact with real-world objects.

Now, before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that this is just a proof-of-concept device, which means the ThinkBook Transparent Display laptop won’t see commercial use. Lenovo does say, however, that this laptop could pave the way for future products that allow users to experience digital and physical environments like never before.
