Rejoice, Kingdom Hearts fans: the coolest reveal from last week’s Nintendo Direct in Japan is coming

RenatisA very stylish-looking action game announced at Japan’s Nintendo Direct last week is actually getting a Western release.

When I saw the trailer for Reynatis, I quickly thought “Oh hey, this reminds me of Kingdom Hearts,” especially since one of the game’s two protagonists is dressed similarly to Kingdom Hearts 3 Very similar to Riku in . The music… wouldn’t you know it, is long-time Kingdom Hearts composer Yoko Shimomura. So, did you know that Kazunari Nojima, the original chief screenwriter of the “Kingdom Hearts” series, is also the screenwriter of the show? The story takes place in Shibuya. Is the background of “Kingdom Hearts 4” set in Shibuya? Damn, I have this game written all over it!

Unfortunately, it was only shown off at last week’s Nintendo Partner Direct, so I’m worried it might not see a Western release. But thankfully, as revealed today, the game will be coming to the West this fall, and in addition to releasing on Nintendo Switch, it’ll also be coming to PS4, PS5, and PC. You can check out the PlayStation announcement trailer above, and admittedly, it looks a little rough in places (notice framerate issues and a slightly PS2-era model), but honestly, I’m not impressed with a game that features two big names Very excited about the prospect of attaching Nojima and Shimomura.

“In Shibuya, Tokyo, fantasy meets reality and magic is a terrifying place,” reads the game’s description on Steam. “In this action RPG, a young wizard seeks freedom through power, and an officer seeks to control magic and restore order. When their paths cross, a darkness descends that will change the world.” From Judging by the PlayStation trailer, there are several characters you can play as, and unsurprisingly, the combat looks very Kingdom Hearts-esque.

Hopefully we’ll see more Kingdom Hearts 4 content this year as well, since it’s been almost two years since Kingdom Hearts 4 was released.
