The cheapest Kindle deals in March 2024

When looking for a device to read e-books, you have several options. You can always buy a tablet or use a phone, but these devices are multipurpose and can be used for many things, such as surfing the web or scrolling on Twitter. If you’re looking for something that can strictly read books, e-readers, while niche, are designed to store all your books in a virtual library with limited functionality.

Amazon is one of the pioneers of e-readers and has dominated the space for years with its ever-expanding Kindle lineup, which is made up of a variety of unique models, each with their own pros and cons. Most of the devices function as simple e-book readers; however, with Kindle Scribe, Amazon appears to be moving beyond books and into writing—which will make future Kindles function more similarly to paper.

Below, we’ve listed every model currently available. Sometimes there is no deal for one or any product but we mention the latest sale price in these cases. Keep in mind that Amazon also offers 20% off all Kindles when you trade in select devices, so there are other ways to save money when all models are off.

Best Kindle Deals (2022)

In case you missed it, Amazon is releasing a new entry-level Kindle in 2022, designed to replace the 2019 model. The latest Kindle starts at $99.99, bringing Amazon’s basic e-reader more in line with the latest Kindle Paperwhite and offering a host of quality-of-life improvements in the process. The 2022 model has longer battery life, a 300ppi screen, and charges via USB-C instead of Micro USB. It also flaunts 16GB of storage by default and comes in a “denim” color, similar to the muted blue you might associate with jeans.

In the past, Amazon’s latest ad-supported Kindle has been reduced to $74.99 (a $25 discount) and includes three months of Kindle Unlimited. However, you can currently only buy the Kindle at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, where it retails for $99.99. That said, you can get it on Amazon at a discount with ads, a power adapter, and a cloth cover, starting at $134.97 ($15 off). Whether you choose a standalone model or a bundled model, the entry-level Kindle is still a worthy choice if you want an e-reader for less than the latest Paperwhite.

Best Kindle Scribe Deals

The ad-free Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s largest e-reader yet, and it also represents a departure from past Kindle models. It has a 10.2-inch 300 dpi display and the same excellent battery life as the Kindle. However, what sets the Scribe apart from other models is that it comes with one of two styluses that can be used to annotate books, doodle, or jot down notes. We found the e-reader’s note-taking capabilities to be lacking in testing, but Amazon has begun improving the software with free OTA software updates to help it keep pace with other E Ink competitors.

The Kindle Scribe retails for $339.99 on Amazon for its 16GB base configuration with the Basic Pen and three months of Kindle Unlimited. Amazon also offers the same product, which comes with a leather case and power adapter, for $379.97 ($60 off). Meanwhile, the Advanced Pen Bundle with shortcut buttons and built-in eraser is currently available in a 16GB configuration with a folio cover and power adapter, starting at $389.97 ($60 off).

A note about Kindle Oasis

Until recently, Amazon sold the 2019 Kindle Oasis. In addition to its 7-inch 300ppi e-ink display, the Oasis is also unique in that it offers physical page-turning buttons. Unfortunately, however, this waterproof e-book reader is neither on sale nor in stock on Amazon or any other major retailer. While the international version of the e-reader is available on Amazon starting at $199.99 ($70 off), it’s probably not worth buying right now. Amazon won’t ship to U.S. addresses, and more notably, the Oasis is no longer listed as part of Amazon’s official Kindle lineup. This suggests Amazon may have discontinued it and we may see an updated version sometime in the near future.
