If you’re like me, there’s nothing like the words “always online” to turn you off from a game. or “free games”. Or “connected experience,” or whatever other marketing term they come up with for their “bad field service grindfest.” Sometimes they don’t even tell you upfront that it’s a GAAS game, instead letting potential viewers infer this information from visual cues in the game’s trailers, such as… three different types of in-game currency, popping up from enemies Being digitally minded, the whole thing has a distinct project air about it that can’t inspire any real enthusiasm from any creative. The core of a good idea is undermined by shareholder demands. ETC.
It wouldn’t be so bad if every damn game these days didn’t come with a live service element. But nonetheless, sometimes the sandwich is sprinkled with sprinkles, and one can enjoy any old turd if necessary. Which brings us to the topic of today’s Best Games Podcast: What’s the best live-service game that you grudgingly love?
