long story short

  • Meta’s social media services were down this morning.
  • Thousands of users reported being unable to use Facebook or Instagram.
  • The outage affected Facebook and Instagram’s websites and their respective apps.

Anyone trying to log into a Facebook or Instagram account this morning might be in for a surprise. Meta’s social media platform is pulling misinformation.

Thousands of users have flooded DownDetector and X (formerly Twitter) to report that they can’t use Facebook or Instagram. Reports range from being unable to refresh the feed to being unable to log in.

At its peak, more than 500,000 Facebook users reported DownDetector, and more than 90,000 Instagram users did the same. Those reports have now died down, but the outage still appears to be affecting a large number of users.

The Instagram website and app both seem to work fine on my own device. Although Facebook is online, some functions still encounter some problems.

Yuan spokesperson Andy Stone Comments have now been made on the situation on X. “We know people are having difficulty accessing our services. We are looking into this issue right now,” Stone said.

We will update this article with more information as it becomes available.
