A new Fossil-branded smartwatch is now receiving the Wear OS 3 update. The Skagen Falster Gen 6 was announced about a year ago in early 2022, and it launched with the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform. The smartwatch has been promised a new update since it was first announced, and although the original timeline was for the second half of 2022, the update is about a few weeks behind schedule.
Skagen Falster Generation 6
A user in a Reddit thread posted an update in progress. One owner reported that the updated Skagen has fewer faces, and the Pixel faces are gone. Apparently, there are only 8 Skagen faces. Others are reporting some missing features here and there. Like the October update for the Fossil Gen 6, Google Assistant is missing from the update. This is due to some hardware limitations of Wear OS 3 and Google Assistant.Right now, the Assistant is only available on Wear OS 3 watches running Samsung’s wearable Exynos chipset
One user claims that the update contains the same build number as the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch, which received the same update back in October. Another user’s first impression was that the UI felt smoother and faster, with no noticeable difference in battery life. Another user said that connectivity and app options on iOS have improved.
Skagen Falster Gen 6 paired with Wear OS app
If you want to download the Wear OS 3 update for this smartwatch, you should know that all user data will be wiped from the smartwatch, and you’ll have to use the new Skagen companion app to set up the watch. As mentioned, you also won’t be able to use Google Assistant on your wrist. We hope Google will work with Qualcomm to do whatever it takes to bring Assistant back. Alexa also works as a backup voice assistant.
