What could possibly go wrong hanging out with Rasputin?
Thaumaturge is a top-down detective RPG with some eerie twists and turns amid the social upheaval of the era. The First Russian Revolution had just begun, which meant everyone, from nobles to commoners, was trying to hold on to at least what they had while looking for ways to take advantage of the uncertainty of the time. There’s a lot of dialogue, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun is nice to see that not only does it offer binary responses of good guy or bad guy, but there’s also plenty of turn-based combat to keep you busy.
The game is relatively short and inexpensive, so you can jump in when it releases since you won’t have to put in hundreds of hours. This is great for those who don’t have a lot of time to invest, as well as those who want to replay it. Judging from reviews, it’s at least as replayable as Disco Elysium, if not more.
