Comcast offers free speed boost to millions of internet customers

Today, Comcast announced that millions of customers of its Xfinity Internet service will receive free speed boosts nationwide. This speed increase is available to new and future customers at no additional cost.

“Live sports, gaming and other data-rich applications are driving internet consumption to new heights,” said Emily Waldorf, senior vice president of Consumer Internet Services at Comcast. “Over the past two decades, we have regularly increased speeds, giving customers the connectivity they need to power their increasingly connected lives. And, since funding for the Affordable Connectivity Plan may not be renewed, we are really working on increasing the speeds for these customers this year so they can take advantage of these new Function.”

With this news, customers on the following plans will see speed increases on the following new packages:

  • Connection: 75 Mbps to 150 Mbps
  • Connect more: 200 Mbps to 300 Mbps
  • Fast: 400 Mbps to 500 Mbps
  • Xfinity Prepaid: 50 Mbps to 200 Mbps

All of this comes as Comcast and other cable providers have been losing Internet customers to new competitors, such as T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet and Verizon’s 5G Home Internet. Now, those new speeds could help Comcast stand out from these new competitors.

If you are a Comcast Internet customer, you don’t need to do anything. If you are on one of these plans, these speeds will be automatically applied to your account.
