Super Mario Bros. movie sequel to be released in 2026

In a new video, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri said the next movie is in development, with a release date set for April 3, 2026.

Meledandri said Paris Illumination studio, which produced the first film, is storyboarding the film again under the direction of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenik. He added that animation will begin soon. The film will be released in “select territories” throughout the rest of the month after opening in the United States “and many other markets around the world” on April 3.

Miyamoto said the film will “have a bright and interesting story” that expands on the world established in the first film.

With the live-action version announced for November The Legend of Zelda Movies, we now have confirmation that not one but two movies based on major Nintendo intellectual property are in development.
