Lisbon, Portugal, March 11, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Internet Computer (ICP)a blockchain network building next-generation IT architecture and infrastructure, has begun its first “Built on ICP” Hackathon in Portugal. Participants compete to win prizes of up to €20,000 and additional funding opportunities. The event runs until March 18th and Portugal’s Web3 builders are invited to Lisbon to meet other builders, industry-leading founders and major venture capital investors to “demonstrate their talent and capabilities.”

The Build on ICP hackathon is organized by the Portuguese ICP Center and is the first ICP event in the region, aiming to unite and cultivate talents in IC protocols. The hackathon will provide a platform for innovators looking to launch the next breakthrough startup, showcase their skills or make a sustained and valuable contribution to the ecosystem.

Independent builders and teams come to Lisbon to showcase what they have built or are building. Because Build on ICP is an open hackathon, there are no specific tasks, tracks, or themes, as is common with similar events. Submitted projects will be showcased to influential parties in the ecosystem and others building tools and applications on the Internet Computer (ICP). Some of the judges and mentors come from organizations such as Lightshift Capital, 3Commas Capital, and the DFINITY Foundation!

As the hacking phase begins, the development of a range of local Internet computers can begin, as long as they are unique ideas and without external funding or grants. All participants in Build on ICP are first-time builders of the protocol, although part of the entry requirements require them to complete the ICP certification course and create smart contracts on the blockchain. The talent showcased on Build on ICP is local and entrants must be residents of Portugal or Spain and 18 years or older to enter the competition.

From February 26 to 29, Build on ICP will begin with online programs, virtual workshops, and team support. This will lead to a long weekend of “IRL Hacking”, from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd March, taking place at the ICP offices in Lisbon. Participants will use these final days to refine and finalize their products and practice marketing them. On Monday, March 4, the final presentation will take place and the winners will be announced.

The main prizes of the Build on ICP hackathon are €2,500 in USDC, a go-to-market strategy worth €10,000, and the possibility of receiving DFINITY funding. The second-place project will receive a PR campaign worth €5,000 and €1,500 in stablecoins, while the third-place project will receive €1,000 in stablecoins. Internet Computer (ICP) designed these awards to provide adequate post-hackathon support to help builders bring their projects to market, subsidize development, and provide opportunities to connect them with the right people for continued success.
