The wait is over: Fairy Tail returns this summer with a new season and 100-year mission

Those who have been patiently waiting for their return Fairy Tail Anime fans will probably be happy to hear that it’s finally returning this summer.

Earlier today, a very brief trailer was released confirming that Fairy Tail: The 100 Year Quest will be released this July. As a continuation of Fairy Tail, the sequel series picks up the story of protagonist Natsu Dragneel and his crew one year after the end of the original story, now embarking on a 100-year quest. This particular mission follows the team as they attempt to contain five potentially destructive dragons, a goal that no one has ever been able to achieve.

The trailer you can watch above is actually just a brief teaser, but it does confirm some details regarding the upcoming show’s cast and crew. First, the project will be produced by JC Staff, known for shows like Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, and One Punch Man Season 2 (and the upcoming Season 3) . Shinji Ishihara, the original director of the Fairy Tail anime, will return as overall director, this time directed by Satoshi Watanabe (Tokyo Ghoul:re). All of the main actors will also be reprising their roles, so don’t worry about hearing any weird sounds in familiar characters.

Kondansha USA Publishing describes the manga’s story, writing: “Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Erza and the entire Fairy Tail guild are back! They decide to complete the ‘100 Year Mission’ – a mission that no one can A job we can do.” Since the Guild’s founding more than a century ago, we’ve taken risks. A mysterious town, a puzzling soul, a terrifying new enemy… and a whole new continent to explore. The adventures never stop when you’re with real friends! ”

A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, and there’s no word on where it will air internationally, so you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled for now.
