The National Communications Authority (NCA) said all four submarine cables running from Ghana to Europe via Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal were out of service, which was responsible for the nationwide internet outage.

A statement from the authority explained that Ghana’s cable landing service providers (ACE, MainOne, SAT-3 and WACS) have completely severed ties with international data services.

“As of the time of this update, all four (4) submarine cables from Ghana to Europe via Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal remain out of service. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and submarine cable landing service providers continue to work with partners within the sub-region Cables from international partners are not affected by the current outage and can provide partial connectivity while troubleshooting and recovery efforts progress.

“In addition, mobile network operators also leverage local caches such as those from the Ghana Internet Exchange (GIX) and other local internal caches to provide efficient data services.

“NCA continues to monitor the situation and is working around the clock with mobile network operators, submarine cable landing service providers and all relevant stakeholders to provide a timetable for the full restoration of data services,” the statement read in part.
