Fiber optic internet project bid in Joplin – Newstalk KZRG

The City of Joplin has issued a request for bids to install a fiber optic internet system throughout the city.

Joplin will put in about $4 million, and so far a Nebraska company has said it will invest $40 million in the project.

“It will provide greater access to more of Joplin, which is good for businesses and good for citizens,” Joplin Mayor Doug Lawson told Newstalk KZRG.

The new fiber optic network will be placed underground to make it more reliable in the event of a storm event.
