As early as 2021, T-Mobile began offering fiber optic home internet in select markets. Now, T-Mobile is launching fiber-optic home internet in two new states. Last year, T-Mobile expanded its presence into Minnesota and Florida by partnering with third-party internet companies to provide service in those areas.
Now, if reports are true, T-Mobile’s fiber home internet could be reaching 13 other cities thanks to a $1 billion deal with Lumos. This would expand T-Mobile’s fiber ambitions to reach approximately 250,000 homes and businesses in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina.
The deal has not officially closed, but T-Mobile will reportedly invest in Lumon to use its network to sell T-Mobile Home Internet over fiber. This is very similar to how T-Mobile expanded its fiber network to Florida and Minnesota last year.
T-Mobile Fiber Home Internet starts at $55 per month for speeds of 500 Mbps, with plans starting at just $100 per month for speeds up to 2 Gbps. T-Mobile says its home internet service has no data caps, no contracts, cancel anytime and 24/7 support.
If you sign up for T-Mobile’s fiber optic internet service, you’ll also get a Wi-Fi 6 router for free.
Currently, the service is only available in New York City, New York; Pueblo and Northglenn, Colorado; Kenosha, Wisconsin; Bloomington and St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Pinellas County, Florida. If you live in one of these markets, T-Mobile is offering next-day installation for many people.
If you’re lucky enough to live in one of these areas, this will give you one more option for home internet.
T-Mobile has reportedly been looking for a partner to build out its fiber network for some time. For now, it looks like this is just the beginning of T-Mobile’s home internet plans.
