It’s (almost) show time!The highly anticipated trailer Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Coming soon—but first, tim burton Watched the sequel to his eponymous horror comedy for the first time entertainment weekly.
Of course, front and center is Michael Keaton As you know, that creature exorcist; in the 1988 film, he is summoned to exterminate the humans who move into the home of a ghostly couple who aren’t ready to let go, subsequently bringing a wrench into the lives of the Dietz family Chaos – which includes neurotic artist Delia (Catherine O’Hara) and teen goth idol Lydia (Winona Ryder).
“He just got back into it,” Burton said of Keaton’s return to the iconic role after nearly 40 years. “For people who might not be too interested in it, it’s a little bit scary. For me, it was a beautiful thing to see all the actors, but he, kind of like the demon possessed, was back to the original state.” The director added, “He doesn’t have a strong desire to do it unless it feels right.”
Burton confirmed that, in fact, the original cast members felt this way.In the sequel, Ryder, Keaton and O’Hara join Wednesdayof Jenna Ortega plays Lydia’s daughter Astrid; leftovers Justin Theroux plays Rory (no other details about him so far, but he appears in the new image below); and poor thingWillem Dafoe plays the character in the afterlife.s story Beetlejuice Beetlejuice After the death of the Dietz family, Beetlejuice is called upon again to deal with the afterlife in all the ways he knows best.
Burton reveals that Lydia brought him back. “I identify so much with Lydia as a character, but so many years later, you go on your own journey, from cool teenager to grungy adult, over and over again,” he said. “That made it emotional and grounded it. So that’s what really got me into it.”
He emphasized the importance of retaining the first Beetlejuice very special. “It required a back-to-basics, hand-made quality,” says Burton, adding that the experience “reignited my love of making movies.” He also confirmed that the sequel’s effects will not mainly use CG, but will follow the stop-motion animation style of the original film.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Opens September 6th.
