Paramount+ surprises release of ‘Ark’ animated series

Paramount+ released the pre-Ark 2 animated series based on Ark: Survival Evolved (now Ascension) in 2020, but we wouldn’t blame you if you forgot, because this pterosaur is on the big screen Flying under most people’s radar. Now, the streaming service has surprisingly dropped six episodes of the show in the U.S. and Canada.

The surprising news broke via Paramount’s own social media channels and was later confirmed by sites like Deadline , which also confirmed the star-studded voice cast.

One might think this production is on the smaller scale, but we’re seeing big-name stars like Michelle Yeoh (“The Good Luck”), Russell Crowe (“The Loudest Voice”), Gerard Butler (“Planes”), David Tennant (“Doctor Who”), Jeffrey Wright (American Novel), Elliot Page (The Umbrella Academy), Madeleine Madden (The Time of Days) Wheel) and Vin Diesel (Fast and Furious franchise). Are they making trouble?

The show itself also released a lengthy trailer in late 2022, which looks pretty good, like a regular streaming anime adaptation based on a video game. That is, below Castlevania level, but on par with games like DOTA, Dragon’s Dogma, or Netflix’s upcoming Tomb Raider.

As for the plot, it looks to be quite isekai-esque, with 21st-century paleontologist Helena Walker (Madden) finding herself resurrected after a tragedy and “on a mysterious, pristine island teeming with prehistoric beasts,” where “She must learn to survive with new allies” traveling through time while trying to uncover the true nature of their strange new world. ” Dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals abound, but parts of the world-building also feel like Turok, which makes us now want an animated Turok series, too.

According to Deadline, the six episodes released today include the first part of the first season, with the second part set to launch later this year. It’s a little weird to drop a TV show based on a hit video game with such a great voice cast without any promotion, but that’s okay. Starting April 19, the show will be available in select international regions.
