Here’s how to pin messages in WhatsApp

You can now pin up to three important messages in a WhatsApp chat.Zuckerberg announced the update on his website yesterday WhatsApp channeland a screenshot showing the fixed image at the top.

I can imagine this feature would make things a lot easier, especially in a group chat where you have to scroll through hundreds of messages to keep up. Information such as event details or exciting news can now be pushed to the top chat banner. The bonus is that you can also pin images and polls, so you’re not limited to text.

If this feature sounds familiar, that’s because in December 2023, we can pin a single information In WhatsApp chat. But with the upgrade of this feature yesterday, the number of messages that can be pinned increased to three.

Recently pinned messages will appear in a banner at the top of the chat. You can click on the banner to cycle through all pinned messages. The small bar on the left will tell you how many messages are pinned.

Some things don’t have to be set in stone forever, like details of a group gathering that happened during the same week. To save users the hassle of pinning and unpinning, they will be asked to select a time range when pinning a message. The three options are 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.

How to Pin and Unpin Messages in WhatsApp Chat

On Android, Tap and hold on the message > Pin > Select pin duration > Pin. iPhone users should Tap and hold on Message > Pin > Select Pin duration. If you are using WhatsApp Web on desktop, Go to the message you want to pin > Hover over the right side of the chat bubble > Click on the down arrow that appears > Pin > Select pinning duration > Pin Finish.

To unpin, Tap and hold on the message > Select Unpin. This works on Android, iOS, and desktop.

Note that if you are a group admin, you must give its members permission to pin messages to the group. For all three platforms – Android, iOS and desktop –Click the group name at the top > Scroll down to Group Permissions > Turn on the Edit Group Settings toggle switch.

Whenever someone in a group pins something, a system message is shared with the entire group indicating that the message was pinned and who pinned it. If someone joins the group after sending a pinned message, they won’t be able to see the message.
