Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will officially power Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Week 12 review

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 has been officially announced and will power the 2024 flagship killer. The 8s Gen 3 offers a range of premium Snapdragon features without the hefty price tag of the top-tier 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chips. The 8s Gen 3 is a 4nm chip with a 3.0GHz Cortex-X4 main core, four 2.8GHz performance cores, and three 2.0GHz efficiency cores. It supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM (up to 4,200MHz) and UFS 4.0 storage.

In terms of connectivity, it implements USB 3.1 Gen 2 over USB-C. Generative AI is at the forefront as new applications gain popularity but also expose new problems. The 8s chip can run the most popular models like the Llama 2, Baichuan-7B, and the Gemini Nano (Pixel 8 users recently found that their phones couldn’t run the Gemini Nano—one of the new issues we mentioned). Supports models with up to 10 billion parameters. The s-model isn’t quite as fast for tasks as the 8 Gen 3, but it stands out from the older 8 Gen 2 with its on-device AI support.

One of the first phones to ship with the new chip is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro (Edge+ 2024 in the US). It will feature a 6.7-inch Full HD+ resolution screen with 165 Hz refresh rate, 12 GB RAM and up to 512 GB storage. Confirmed to arrive on April 3rd.

Moving on to the iPhone 16 series. All four iPhone 16 models will have thinner bezels. Apple has reportedly found a way to shrink bezels, and all display vendors will be able to adopt the technology. Apple will make the phone larger by increasing the screen size from 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches to 6.27 inches and 6.85 inches, so shrinking the bezels could make the size jump smaller than it originally was.

Apple also released a video explaining how the 128GB of base memory on the iPhone 15 “provides tons of storage for tons of photos.” You should just watch the video. See you in a week!
