Sony Xperia 1 VI size revealed, the phone will be shorter and wider

A few weeks ago, we heard rumors that Sony would be ditching the 4K display on the next Xperia 1 model – which would happen when the aspect ratio changed from 21:9 to 19.5:9 (which suggested the vertical resolution would no longer 3,840 pixels). This would also require a change in the phone’s dimensions, and a new leak reveals new values.

The Sony Xperia 1 VI is said to measure 162 x 74.4 x 8.45 mm, which is 3 mm shorter and 3 mm (slightly) wider than the Xperia 1 V (165 x 71 x 8.3 mm). The last render showed that Sony will stick with its traditional top and bottom bezel design, so the loss of vertical space won’t come at the expense of stereo speakers and a front-facing camera located in the bezel instead of the screen.

Talking about the screen, it measures 149.6 x 69.4 mm. The aspect ratio is 19.4:9 and the diagonal length is 6.49 inches. Comparison with the Mark V screen is as follows:

As you can see, the display lost some space vertically (2mm) but became wider (almost 5mm).

Sony Xperia 1 VI is expected to be released in May. Previous leaks suggested that the phone would have a larger RAM option of 16GB, but the base memory would remain at 12GB. The leak also talks about the Xperia 5 VI (8GB only) and Xperia 10 VI (6/8GB), but there’s no indication whether those two models will also be released in May.

Thanks for the tip, Josip!
