Meteor Lake PS coming soon, different from Meteor Lake-S
Thanks to a post on Twitter by iBase Motherboard, there are rumors that they will release an LGA 1851 socket with explicit support for Meteor Lake PS. The article is sparse in details and some of the facts presented seem a little off. They describe the supported CPUs as 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra, but Intel is said to be changing its core branding for Meteor Lake and newer chips, and the GPU is described as Iris Xe rather than Arc graphics. With Intel’s recent enthusiasm for rebranding, this could just be a confusion, but until we get the details, it all seems a bit strange.
Meteor Lake PS chips share the same name as Alder Lake PS chips, which means they are designed for IoT rather than desktop applications. The non-PS chips will be used in all-in-ones, mini PCs, and NUC-like devices, and there won’t be a traditional desktop version. That’s not unusual for a mobile chip from Intel, although it would be strange not to see a socketed desktop version of the new generation chip. The rumored MI1002 motherboard will feature dual Ethernet ports, COM ports, and 5G support, which will make it useful in the IoT world, although it may be a bit pricey.
