iOS 18, AI, visionOS 2, and more to look forward to

It’s official: Apple has confirmed the date of its annual developers conference WWDC 2024, which will be held during the week of June 10th to June 14th. The Cupertino giant is expected to announce new software updates for its devices, such as iOS 18, watchOS 11, the latest macOS version, and more. Additionally, there are some speculations about AI-related and hardware releases. In this article, we’ll break down the key details of WWDC 2024 and what we can expect from Apple’s highly anticipated event.

WWDC 2024 will be held from June 5 to June 9. The keynote will take place on Monday, June 10 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET), where the company is expected to make most of its major announcements, including iOS 18, visionOS 2, and more. While the event will last until June 14, the remaining events are mainly for developers who want to try and learn more about Apple’s new technologies and APIs.

As in previous years, WWDC 2024 will be a hybrid format, taking place both online for all of us and in person at Apple Park in California for select developers, students, and media. The company will present pre-recorded keynotes for online audiences, while those attending in person will watch the same keynotes and participate in developer sessions and labs. For those watching at home, the event will be live-streamed on Apple’s YouTube channel, event website and Apple TV app.

WWDC 2024: What to look forward to?

At WWDC 2024, Apple is expected to release the latest versions of its operating systems, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11 and VisionOS 2. A few leaks have given us some insight into what to expect in iOS 18. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 18 will be the “most ambitious overhaul” in the history of the iPhone operating system.

iOS 18 is rumored to include many iPhone-related Siri and artificial intelligence features. Generative AI will be a big focus this time around, with AI-related features being added to Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, and Apple’s iWork apps. In addition to this, iOS 18 will reportedly be more customizable, allowing users to place app icons anywhere on the home screen instead of next to each other. New Apple Maps features are also expected to be implemented for the first time, as well as the introduction of RCS support in Messages.

There isn’t much news about macOS 15, but Apple is likely to add the same AI capabilities to Apple Silicon Macs. In addition to the new macOS and iOS 18, Apple is expected to launch watchOS 11, tvOS 18, iPadOS 18, HomePod Software 18 and VisionOS 2. However, there are no details or leaks about these updates yet.

What about new hardware products? Last year, Apple launched the 15-inch MacBook Air M2 and Vision Pro headphones at WWDC. However, the 15-inch MacBook Air was only recently upgraded to M3, and there’s no talk of new headphones. It’s unlikely we’ll see any new hardware updates at WWDC, but Apple has yet to update the Mac Studio, Mac mini, and Mac Pro with the latest Apple Silicon chipsets, so it’s possible we could see something similar.

Overall, WWDC 2024 may just be about new software releases and AI releases. Do you think Apple will bring us any surprises this year? Let us know in the comments section below!
