Munizae Jahangir highlights the shocking situation faced by residents of Gilgit-Baltistan, who endured over 22 hours of isolation power failure daily life, and the adverse impact of the power crisis on their daily lives.
She also highlighted internet outages in the region, urging immediate action to address them. Jahangir expressed concern over the kidnapping of 13-year-old Farak Noor and questioned the effectiveness of local police. She criticized the police for allegedly siding with the accused and stressed the importance of a fair trial to verify the girl’s true age.
Gilgit Chief Justice Ali Baig has directed the local police to bring the girl to court. Furthermore, he called on the authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure justice for the girl’s family.
Jahangir pointed out that the region lacked forensic laboratories to investigate sensitive cases, citing the example of an 18-year-old girl who was found in the Gilgit river after going missing for 24 days.
Recently, a political activist raised concerns about racial discrimination in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
