For arcade racers in the mid-2000s, Blur vs. Split Second was the equivalent of Deep Impact vs. Armgeddon

Big Western-style open-world RPGs from the beloved Japanese studio are often known for other things (gasp), like buses: there wasn’t one for a long time, and then two appeared at the same time! See also: Clinton-era disaster movie about Earth being hit by an asteroid. See also: Clinton-era disaster movies about America being devastated by volcanoes. See also: Those stories about the White House (Bill Clinton’s former residence) being beaten up by some gunmen. I have no idea. You’re not reading this anyway.

The gist is this: There were two superficially similar games coming out at the same time, so I asked our regular team to come up with previous games that followed this pattern and added a further layer of meta-ness, and asked them to pitch this pairing to me specifically. “Deep Impact”. Like, the not so good one. A relatively unknown one. There’s no related Aerosmith song to that song, if you will.
