We may soon learn a release date for the Silent Hill 2 remake

The next chapter in the Silent Hill 2 remake saga may be about to be revealed. We’ve long known that the remake of the horror classic will be released in 2024, but we may be getting a more specific date soon.

That’s thanks to some secrets being leaked by the Game Rating Board, which happens all the time. However, this is not a leak. But a correct list.

The Entertainment Software Association’s Ratings Board ESRB has officially awarded Silent Hill 2 Remastered a Mature (M) rating.as found Wario 64 Twittergiven the product description, the game’s M rating is very reasonable.

The graphic content includes “real gunshots”, “screams of pain”, “blood spatter”, “characters being impaled”, as well as “posters of scantily clad women”, “suggestive dialogue” and other pornographic content.

Of course, the original Silent Hill 2 also had a mature ESRB rating. In fact, no game in the horror game series is rated less than “mature” by the ESRB.

When the ESRB rates a game, it means that the game’s content is complete. This also usually indicates that the developer is putting final touches on the game before release. This all points to news of some kind of release date being imminent.

The closest major industry event is of course the Summer Games Festival in June, but publisher Konami will likely host a dedicated event to once again showcase the game and announce a release date. In fact, news of the release date could just as easily have appeared in the trailer.

However, Konami and developer Bloober Team may be wary of releasing another trailer after the overwhelmingly negative response to the State of Play combat trailer in January. This caused enough of a stir that Bloober Team blamed the entire ordeal on Konami, claiming that it didn’t accurately represent the remake, adding that Konami was the one responsible for marketing the game.

Whatever the case may be, the trailer certainly does little to ease many of the concerns of the Silent Hill community, especially considering Bloober Team’s mediocre reputation among horror fans. Obviously, we should reserve judgment until we play with the final product.

A Silent Hill 2 remake is in development for PC and PS5.
