Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade roundup for February 23, 2024. It’s Friday, so we have to check out the rest of this week’s releases. Not as big a crop today, but still a healthy crop. Now that we’ve rounded up all the games worth summarizing, let’s take a look at the list of new promotions and expiring discounts. Promenade ($24.99)
This is a fun game. Imagine a 3D platform collectathon where you collect Woobies, Snublubs, stars, or something else.Now compress that into a 2D platformer and that’s gallery. You are trying to fix the big elevator by finding the missing gears. As you repair it, more stages will open and more gears will be collected. I’ll have a review on this soon, but so far I’m loving it.
Alva’s Legacy + Alva’s Awakening ($21.99)
I’ve more or less given up on including bundles in these roundups because they’ve basically become vehicles for repackaging junk to get around the eShop’s lower price restrictions, but I’ll make an exception here.this Alva’s Both games are excellent action-adventure games, and both are available at great prices to add to your collection. I ended up buying multiple copies of both games on various platforms so I could play them anywhere.
Japanese Model Train – JR Kyushu Edition ($13.99)
Another version of it, this time featuring JR Kyushu trains. I want to stress again that there is no real game here as it is more of a way to play virtual model trains. You can make small dioramas and view model trains in detail. For most people this won’t be that interesting, but those who are fascinated by trains may get something out of it.
Wira & Taksa: Masters of Defying Gravity ($16.99)
It’s a platformer with some puzzle elements. You control two different characters, Wira and Taksa, and must use their unique skills to complete various stages. As you might have guessed from the title, there’s a lot of gravity-based shenanigans going on here. Since this is a RedDeer game, standard recommendations apply. The “normal” price is jacked up a bit so the publisher can heavily discount it to the actual price and look like they’re giving you a deal. Always wait for promotions on RedDeer games.
Pixel Game Maker Series Cats and Castles ($4.99)
There are several cat-related games today. In this game, you play as a cat named Moi (“I”? Weird name), exploring a mysterious castle and trying to find some food. This is a stage-based game, although there is some exploration within the stages. It’s a fiver and if nothing else, it has a… unique look. I’m sure it’s suitable for an evening of laughter.
Kill the Goblin($4.99)
It’s a short (about half an hour long) first-person shooter in which you hunt down goblins. They escape into the outside world and you must chase them through time and space to take them down. You know, I don’t mind the idea of short games that you can just boot up and replay without having to invest a ton of time, and I think something like that would be perfect for the first-person shooter genre. The price point is right too.
Nya Aanvi ($9.99)
A self-proclaimed butt wrestling game starring spindly cat-like creatures called “Nyanvys.” They’re obviously fighting each other to see who can be the cat among cats. All right. Up to four players can compete locally, and up to six players can compete online. There’s also an arcade mode and a survival mode for those who want to play solo. Of course, there are plenty of customization options so you can make Nyanvy look just the way you like. It’s one of those silly physics fights, but if you like those then I think you’ll have fun with it.
Life($10.99)
It’s a movie-like platformer set in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland where you play a patient who is the last remaining person on his “platform.” He needs to find a way out, to other platforms, to find other survivors, and try to rebuild his life. Despite its flaws, it seems to have found a niche audience for itself on Steam, and I imagine it’ll do the same on Switch.
