In the actual timeline of events, Cloud didn’t acquire the Buster Sword until much later, after Zack’s death. So it makes sense that he walks around the world without a giant blade on his back. The fact that most video game scenes don’t adjust weapon animations is entirely possible, and it’s entirely possible that this is just an oversight, but damn, it would be awesome if Square could have thought of this subtle change ahead of time.
