new season Marvel Snapshot (Free) has arrived, bringing with it some cool new thunder-themed cards. As usual, it also makes some significant adjustments to the balances of existing cards. The meta has become ubiquitous in some ways lately, but one thing has remained very, very consistent: Thanos’ rules. The Mad Titan’s second developer dinner has been around before with little success, but with today’s OTA patch, it’s taking another turn. Will this be the one that sticks? To stop the rampage of Thanos-themed decks, two cards have been tweaked, including a rare tweak to the big man himself. Thanos’ stats remain the same, and he still shuffles the Infinity Stones into your deck at the start of the game. But now he starts with your starting hand every time. This may not seem like a big nerf, but Thanos is usually the least powerful tool in Thanos decks, so forcing him into your hand no matter what happens will keep your focus on him, It also basically occupies a position in your hand that can’t be played for at least a few rounds. We’ll see how that changes things, but it’s just a small piece of the puzzle today.

The Time Stone, which had just finished its last nerf, was hit by the bat again. A recent change to its ability is that after being revealed you will draw a card and give it a -1 cost. Well, the deal has changed again. Now, when you use the Time Stone, its “reveal” ability will cause Thanos to cost -1 next turn and draw a card for you. This furthers Second Supper’s stated goal of focusing more on Thanos in the decks he belongs in, but it also further weakens his general utility. Will this eventually take the form of a card?

The next card that got nerfed was a bit surprising to me because I personally don’t come across it that often when playing the game. Mick has apparently been working like crazy to help win since his powers were tweaked not too long ago, meaning his neck is now on the line. However, this is only a small statistical change. Miek went from a 1-Cost 1-Power card to a 1-Cost 0-Power card. His abilities are still intact, so you should still be able to buff him nicely in discard decks.

Well, that’s all the negative stuff. Let’s get into the buffs part of this update. Three cards received substandard improvements, and I think the biggest winner here is Crossbones. He is a 4 cost 8 energy card, but has the restriction that it can only be used in locations where you have already won. Well, his stats got a boost and is now 4 cost 10 power, putting him into the higher power ranks and directly competing with Cull Obsidian in terms of deck value. I hope to see Crossbones more often from now on.

Sabertooth gets a smaller, but valuable buff. Before he was 3-Cost 4-Power, now he is 3-Cost 5-Power. There are so many useful cards in the Destruction deck that it’s hard to find a place for Wolverine’s nemesis, but this might help push him back into the mix. The final improvement is more of a regression, with Angela going from 2-Cost 2-Power and +1 Power when a card is played from her position to 2-Cost 0-Power and + when a card is played from her position 2 Power. You know, just like before. So put on your Kitty Pryde and Silk dancing shoes, along with all your favorite Move deck mates.

Oh, and here’s one last thing before we leave: place lovers. Baxter Tower used to provide +3 power to the player who won it in other locations. It now gives +4 Power for obvious reasons.
