long story short

  • OnePlus and OPPO are reportedly using micro quad-curved panels for their upcoming flagships.
  • The OnePlus 13 may be the first OnePlus phone to feature this new design element.

The OnePlus 12 marked a return for the brand, but the upcoming OnePlus 13 may bring bigger changes.

in a Recent exchanges on X (ex-Twitter) Reliable source Yogesh Brar said that OnePlus and sister company OPPO may use “micro quad-curved panels” in their upcoming flagships. The tweet is a response to claims that OPPO’s next flagship, the Find X8 Ultra, will use a Micro quad-curved display. Let’s analyze what this information means.

What exactly is “Micro Four Songs”?

This buzzword likely describes a display with subtle curves on all four sides. We’re familiar with curved sides, but imagine those curves extending to the top and bottom as well, creating a seamless, almost bezel-less look. While the functional benefits may be small, the wow factor is undeniable.

Huawei dabbled in this space a few years ago, and more recently, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra launched a similar curved display called a “surround LCD”. It seems that “Micro Four Songs” may be OPPO’s name for it. Clearly, smartphone companies seem hell-bent on outdoing each other with flashy names for their latest design quirks.

Will this be a major feature of next year’s OnePlus?

Of course, this is just speculation at this point, but if Brar’s hints are accurate, the OnePlus 13 could be the first phone in the US to feature this visually unique design. Interestingly, the tweet suggests that some mid-range OnePlus devices may also receive this treatment. While it’s doubtful this includes the Nord series, we wouldn’t be surprised if this new design language trickles down to the OnePlus 13R, if at all.

We’re still too far away from the launch of the OnePlus 13, but we can speculate that it might offer the usual performance improvements and hopefully satisfy the need for a camera upgrade. Previous rumors have suggested that the OnePlus 13’s design will undergo major changes, possibly abandoning the position of the circular camera module fixed to the side frame.

I personally wouldn’t mind if OnePlus flagships started looking more like their beautiful OPPO siblings.
